Expressive Arts Therapist Consultation: Access What Lives Beyond Words

Book Your Consultation

Consultation for Mental Health Professionals

I provide consultation for mental health professionals who want to integrate expressive arts modalities into their practice.

Who This Is For

Licensed and pre-licensed therapists, counselors, social workers, and psychologists who:

  • Want to learn how to use expressive arts therapeutically

  • Are already using some creative modalities and want to deepen their practice

  • Work with trauma, couples, or populations where body-based and sensory interventions are needed

  • Feel limited by talk therapy alone and want to access what lives beyond words

  • Are curious about intermodal work (moving between visual arts, movement, writing, sound, etc.)

  • Need support with specific cases where expressive arts might be helpful

  • Want culturally grounded approaches that honor ancestral and community wisdom

You don't need to be pursuing REAT registration with the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. This is about expanding your clinical toolkit and deepening your understanding of how creative expression functions as medicine.

What I Bring to Art Therapy Consultation

Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT)

I'm trained in expressive arts therapy with expertise across multiple modalities: visual arts, movement, writing, music, and ritual. I understand how creative expression bypasses cognitive defenses and accesses emotional and somatic memory. I am a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist through International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA).

Licensed Mental Health Professional

I'm a licensed therapist who integrates expressive arts across individual, couples, and group work. I understand how to work within clinical and ethical frameworks while using creative modalities.

Specialization in Couples Therapy

Much of my practice centers expressive arts couples therapy, where creative modalities help partners access vulnerability, break stuck patterns, and communicate beyond words. If you work with couples, I can help you integrate arts-based interventions effectively.

Trauma-Informed, Culturally Grounded Practice

Expressive arts therapies are particularly powerful for trauma work because they engage the body and senses. My consultation is grounded in cultural healing practices and decolonized frameworks.

Understanding of Intermodal Process

I can help you understand mechanisms of change within expressive and creative arts, when to use which modalities, how to sequence interventions, and how to prepare clients for creative work that might surface unexpected material.

How Consultation Works

Case-Specific Support

Bring specific clients or situations where you're considering using expressive arts. We'll explore what modality might serve the therapeutic goal, how to introduce it, and how to process what emerges.

Skill Building

Learn specific techniques across modalities. This might include understanding how to use visual art for externalization, movement for accessing stuck emotions, writing for narrative work, or ritual for transitions.

Integration into Your Theoretical Framework

Whether you practice from a psychodynamic, CBT, narrative, somatic, or other orientation, we'll explore how expressive arts can integrate with (not replace) your existing approach.

Ethical Considerations

We'll address scope of practice questions, informed consent for creative work, preparing clients for potential vulnerability, and knowing when to refer to specialists.

Your Own Creative Practice

To use expressive arts therapeutically, you need your own relationship with creative expression. We can explore how to develop this without needing to be "artistic."

What Makes Expressive Arts Supervision Different

Collaborative Exploration

This isn't about me giving you a formula for using expressive arts. It's about exploring together how creative modalities can serve your clients and fit your practice. You know your clients and your approach. I know expressive arts. Together, we figure out what works.

Spiritual and Cultural Integration Welcome

If you're working with clients' spiritual experiences, ancestral wisdom, or healing practices from non-Western traditions, you won't need to translate everything into Western clinical language with me.

No Pressure to Pursue Certification

You don't need to become a REAT or specialize in expressive arts. This consultation is for practitioners who want to thoughtfully integrate creative modalities as one part of their broader clinical work.
